History
The village belonged to Zayd Abu Zayd, last Almohad governor of Valencia, until in 1238 James I's troops reconquered it. It then passed to the Bishop of Segorbe and later to the Counts of Cirat; the last feudal lord was the Marquis of Dos Aguas. In 1610, after the expulsion of the Moriscos, the founding charter was granted. In 1636 the justice Roque Pastor planted the elm in the square that bears his name. In the 18th century summer residences were built for well-off Valencian families.
