History of Xodos

Xodos (Chodos) is a mountain village of Arab origin whose founding charter dates from the mid-13th century. It belonged to the Counts of Aranda and later to the Duchy of Híjar.

History

It is of Arab origin. After the reconquest James I granted it to Ximén de Urrea, an Aragonese nobleman. The founding charter is dated 1254, though other sources date it 17 June 1292, and jurisdiction was set under the fuero of Aragon. It then belonged to the Counts of Aranda and, when that house died out, to the Duchy of Híjar.

Population

It had 153 inhabitants in 1990, 122 in 2008 and 112 in 2019; in 2025 the INE gives 107.
