History of Villores

Villores, in Els Ports, was never a hamlet of Morella because it was a lay lordship. According to Viciana, Blasco de Alagón gave it to the convent of Sigena in 1233.

History

It was conquered by Blasco de Alagón; the source gives no date. It was part of the general district of Morella but never one of its hamlets because it was a lay lordship. According to Viciana, Blasco de Alagón gave the place to the convent of nuns of Sigena in April 1233. In the 16th century Francesc Joan Ciurana was lord of Villores and Todolella, though criminal jurisdiction belonged to the town of Morella, and in 1806 Francesc Vidal i Roca held the lordship of both. Like many places in the Maestrazgo and Els Ports, it backed the Carlist cause in the Carlist wars.
