Villanueva de Viver, in the Alto Palancia, was originally called Villanueva de la Reina. It has remains of an Iberian settlement and was resettled by Christians in 1368.
History
There are traces of an Iberian settlement on a slope of the nearby ravine. Its original name was Villanueva de la Reina, in memory of Queen Eleanor of Portugal, who died nearby of the plague on 30 October 1348. In 1368 it was resettled by Christians and came under the lordship of the barony of Jérica. In 1916 the municipal naming reform gave it its present name.
