History of Vall d'Alba

La Vall d'Alba began as a Muslim farmstead and for centuries was part of Vilafamés. Its municipality is very recent: it was formed in the 20th century when it split from it.

From farmstead to lordships

The name comes from the Muslim farmstead of Alba. In 1244 the place returned to the royal estate after James I's donation to the monastery of Benifassà. In 1264 Brother Gui de la Gespa granted in Borriana a founding charter so that people from Vilafamés could settle there. It then passed to the Order of the Hospital and later to Montesa.

20th century

In 1902 the new church of San Juan Bautista was built and on 4 July 1925 the municipality was formed by splitting from Vilafamés. In 1937 the old little church of San Antonio was demolished.
