Sant Joan de Moró, in the Plana Alta, had a castle recorded in 1100, a Christian settlement after a donation in 1238, and depended on Vilafamés until 1990.
Iberians, Romans and Muslims
Iberians, Romans and Muslims all passed through the area. The Romans left their mark at the Mas de Flors. The first sign of the municipality is the castle of Moró, known from the year 1100: it stood on the Tossal de Mollet, at about 700 metres, and was part of the defensive belt of Montornés. The source describes it as an Aragonese possession.
The Reconquest and rural life
With the Reconquest a Christian settlement was created, with a donation in 1238 (the source does not say by whom). Until the 1970s the village was rural and agricultural. It then joined the industrial boom of l'Alcora and its tile sector and became a ceramics town.
Separation from Vilafamés
Sant Joan de Moró depended on Vilafamés until 1990. The separation file was opened in 1957, the Supreme Court confirmed it in 1987 and it was finally achieved in 1990.
