The place belonged to Montornés castle. After James I's conquest it was ceded to Pere Sanz. In 1515 Nicolás Casalduch, «the Baron of La Puebla», acquired it and his descendants kept the title. On 25 May 1708, in the middle of the War of the Spanish Succession, a force of more than 5,000 soldiers of Philip V plundered the harvest and the villagers fled for two days to Vilafamés. In 1734 construction of the church of San Miguel Arcángel began.
In 1900 it had 901 inhabitants and in 1994, 526.
