Pavías, in the Alto Palancia, appears linked to the castle of Almonecir from the 11th century. It fell from 508 inhabitants in 1900 to 60 in 2007.
History
The first references are from the 11th century and are tied to the castle of Almonecir, of which nothing survives. On 22 May 1238 James I gave it to Berenguer de Palou, Bishop of Barcelona. It later formed part of the lordship of Segorbe, until in 1430 Alfonso V annexed the possessions of the Count of Luna. The ducal house of Cardona inherited the castle in 1562.
Population
It had 508 inhabitants in 1900 and 393 in 1910. It dropped to 152 in 1960 and to 60 in 2007.
