La Llosa, in the Plana Baixa, grew from an old Arab farmstead and was part of the barony of Almenara. For a long time malaria held back its growth.
History
It originated as an Arab farmstead. After the conquest James I granted a house and a mill to Bernat Sauvi and land to P. Flandina. In 1292 Francesc de Próxita bought the barony of Almenara, to which La Llosa belonged, from James II, and his son Olfo succeeded him. In 1609 the place was Morisco and had 75 houses; after the expulsion a settlement charter was granted.
19th and 20th centuries
Chronic malaria held back growth until well into the 19th century. After that the population grew steadily, and growth picked up in the 1960s.
