History of Gaibiel

Gaibiel, in the Alto Palancia, is of Muslim origin and was conquered by James I in 1237. Its first settlement charter dates from 1636.

History

On 28 August 1237 James I conquered the village and ceded it to Pedro Garcés de Roda. In 1534 it had about 50 households and its lords were the Heredia family. In 1600 the Christian Miguel Monçonís was governor of the castle, which the Morisco population did not accept. In 1636 rule passed to the Counts of Priego and the first settlement charter was granted.
