Costur, in the Alcalatén, is a young municipality: it had no autonomy until it split from Alcora in the late 19th century.
From the Alcalatén to independence
Arab coins from the reign of Omadedaulat, king of Zaragoza between 1109 and 1129, have been found. In 1233 James I ceded the tenancy of the Alcalatén to Ximén de Urrea. With the extinction of the House of Aranda in 1798 the territory passed to the Duke of Híjar, until 1818. Municipal autonomy came in 1889, when it split from Alcora.
