History of Chóvar

Chóvar, in the Alto Palancia, has remains from the Bronze Age and an Iberian settlement, but the present village was founded by Muslims.

From the Bronze Age to the Muslim period

Bronze Age remains have been found in the municipality in the Bellota area, and there is an Iberian settlement on top of Mount Rubial. The present village was founded by Muslims, as the irregular layout of its streets shows.

The first written mention comes when Zayd Abu Zayd, king of the taifa of Valencia, takes an interest in the newly founded Chóvar, settled by people from the castle of Bejís. The source consulted gives no dates for these events.
