Betxí is a village on the Plana's ceramics plain, dominated by the castle-palace of its barons and later marquises. It was a barony until its founding charter was drawn up in 1611.

In 1233, with the surrender of Borriana, James I began the conquest of the Plana and Betxí capitulated then. In 1396 the barony of Betxí was set up under the Ruiz de Liori family; in 1492 Elisabet Rois de Liori married Alfons de Cardona, and in 1510 the barony period under the Ruiz de Liori ended.
In 1611 the terms of the founding charter were signed. At the end of the 17th century the lords became Marquises of Ariza, and between 1694 and 1704 the Baroque church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles was built. In 1957 it moved to the diocese of Tortosa and in 1960 to that of Segorbe-Castellón.
