Benafer, in the Alto Palancia, was a Muslim farmstead until in 1368 its population was expelled after a rebellion. The Bishop of Segorbe then ratified its settlement charter.
History
In 1368 the Muslim population was expelled after its rebellion during the war with Castile, and that same year it received a first settlement charter. In 1379 the Bishop of Segorbe, Íñigo de Valterra, completed and ratified it and bought the place in a private capacity. In the 15th century it belonged to the Exarc family and in 1611 it passed to the Cucaló family. Between 1936 and 1939 the Civil War left trenches around the village.
