Almedíjar, in the Espadán mountains, was the scene in 1528 of the battle that ended the Morisco rebellion in the Kingdom of Valencia.
Conquest and Morisco rebellion
James I conquered it in 1238. In 1528 the final defeat of the Moriscos at the Battle of Almedíjar ended their rebellion in the Kingdom of Valencia. In 1611, after their expulsion, the Marquis of Quirra granted the founding charter of the depopulated place before a notary.
Heritage
The church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles is of 13th-century origin. The Moriscos built the aqueducts of La Huerta Nueva and La Alfara. There is also a medieval wall and the castle of Monte de la Rodana.
