Algimia de Almonacid, in the Alto Palancia, was a village of the lordship of Segorbe and saw a Morisco uprising after the expulsion order.
Middle Ages
James I reconquered the village in 1238 and on 22 May of that year gave it to Berenguer de Palou, Bishop of Barcelona. In 1430 the union with the lordship of Segorbe ended, when Alfonso V annexed the possessions of the Count of Luna, and in 1437 the king sold the castle of Almonecir to Vidal de Castellá.
Early modern period
In 1562 the ducal house of Cardona joined the Duchy of Segorbe and on 8 May 1581 the castle was sold to Dionisio de Reus. In 1610 the Moriscos rose up after the expulsion order and the place was resettled by Pedro de Urrea.
